The leader of the Left Front, Sergei Udaltsov, was added to the register of terrorists and extremists. This was reported on the Rosfinmonitoring website.
In mid-January, the Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested Udaltsov in the case of justifying terrorism (Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code). The meeting to select a preventive measure was held behind closed doors.
As reported , Udaltsov “posted publications supporting the actions of persons accused of carrying out terrorist activities” on the Left Front website and in his Telegram channel. the press service of the court
Udaltsov himself then stated that a case was opened against him because of posts about members of a Marxist circle from Ufa, who were arrested in 2020 in connection with a terrorist community case. The politician did not admit guilt. He linked his criminal prosecution to the upcoming presidential elections.
Sergei Udaltsov was an active participant in the protests in Russia, which began in 2011 after the State Duma elections. In 2014, he was sentenced to four and a half years in prison in the Bolotnaya case. The court found him guilty of organizing mass riots.
He was released in August 2017. Now Udaltsov supports the war in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea, but criticizes Vladimir Putin.
