A St. Petersburg pensioner was sentenced to 12 years in prison in the case of setting a military registration and enlistment office door on fire.

During the debate in the 1st Western District Military Court, the state prosecution asked that 67-year-old St. Petersburg resident Zhamangul Kurbanova be sentenced to 12 years in a general regime colony in the case of setting the door of the military registration and enlistment office on fire. The pensioner is accused of committing a terrorist act that resulted in significant property damage (clause “c” of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code). Representative of the military registration and enlistment office Irina Aristarkhova said that any damage to the building can be considered significant, since no money is allocated for repairs.

“Taking into account the conduct of a special military operation and the work being carried out by the military commissariat, I believe that these actions entail significant damage,” reported Sota Aristarkhova’s words spoken at one of the meetings. As a result, Kurbanova paid 90 thousand rubles in damages.

A Petersburg woman worked as a saleswoman in a store. According to her, since June 2023, she began to receive calls from unknown people who convinced her to take out loans in the amount of about 200 thousand rubles. As a condition for returning the money, she was given the arson of the building in which the criminals were hiding, Kurbanova said. She claims that she did not know that they were talking about the military commissariat.

At the last meeting, the St. Petersburg woman explained: “I honestly admit what I did, but I am not a terrorist! I didn’t want to harm and didn’t want to kill anyone, I wanted the scammers to be imprisoned so that no more people would suffer. This is my truth."

According to investigators, on August 1, 2023, the woman was offered to set fire to the military registration and enlistment office for 50 thousand rubles, and was also sent instructions for making a Molotov cocktail and money to purchase its components. Then, the security forces believe, Kurbanova came to the military registration and enlistment office on Anglisky Avenue, set fire to the door and reported on the task completed.

The pensioner was detained the next day. Initially, she was charged with intentional damage to someone else's property. Then the case was reclassified. The new article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 12 to 20 years.
