The Ukrainian Armed Forces announced the destruction of the Russian large landing ship Caesar Kunikov. The corresponding message appeared in the official telegram channel of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army.
It says that the Russian BDK was sunk as a result of an operation carried out by the Ukrainian Armed Forces together with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. “At the time of the defeat, he was in the territorial waters of Ukraine near Alupka,” the Ukrainian General Staff clarified.
In turn, the Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate published a video allegedly filmed from aboard Ukrainian unmanned boats that attacked a Russian ship.
Messages about the attack on the Caesar Kunikov large landing ship also appeared in Russian pro-war telegram channels. “Ukrainian formations once again attacked the Black Sea Fleet south of the village. Katsiveli on the southern coast of Crimea. Apparently, a Russian large landing ship was hit (probably we are talking about the large landing ship “Caesar Kunikov”),” wrote the telegram channel “Rybar”, which is close to the Russian Ministry of Defense. In turn, the telegram channel “Two Majors” claims that the crew of the stricken ship is alive.
Videos have circulated on Crimean telegram channels that allegedly show explosions on board the Caesar Kunikov. At the time of publication of the note, the Russian Ministry of Defense did not comment on reports of the destruction of “Caesar Kunikov”
In March 2022, a month after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces already reported an attack on the large landing ship Caesar Kunikov, as a result of which the ship was allegedly damaged.
In December 2023, the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced the destruction of the large landing ship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, Novocherkassk, as a result of a missile attack on the port of Feodosia in the annexed Crimea. Soon after, local media reported the death of 74 crew members on board. These messages were later deleted.
