Belgorod residents did not receive SMS alerts and did not hear sirens in the area of ​​the shopping center, which received the most powerful blow during the last attack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the city. This was immediately reported to the Agency by three people who were close to the explosion site. It turns out that in the two months that have passed since the last major attack, the authorities have not been able to create an effective system for alerting citizens about shelling.

Quote . “We had just entered home when there was an explosion. I talked to my mother, she works in the Severny area (a village north of Belgorod - “Agency”), and they heard the first explosions. She said to move her daughter away from the window. I took it and the explosions started. There was some crunching noise, but the glass remained intact. It was like December 30th, but louder. No SMS notifications were received, no sirens were heard,” a resident of the house closest to the site of the impact on Plekhanov Street, 10a, told the Agency.

• She also added that the shelter in their house was working, but she herself did not go down there - there were no arrivals in their area. The woman does not know whether it was open at the time of the impact or not.
• As two other women working in houses adjacent to the impact site told the Agency, they only heard the sirens after the explosions.

Context . On Thursday morning, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched the second deadliest strike on Belgorod since the beginning of the war, the previous one was on December 30. According to the Russian Ministry of Health, currently six people are officially known to have died, including one child. Another 17, including four children, were injured of varying degrees of severity.

• This is the second time the Russian authorities have found themselves unprepared for the shelling of Belgorod. During the previous major shelling on December 30, the siren also went off only after the shelling. At the same time, some of the shelters were then locked.
