Two Superjets encountered problems in flight in one morning

Two Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft immediately returned to their departure airport due to technical problems. One of them regularly appears in air accident reports.

Details . The Rossiya Airlines SSJ-100 aircraft (tail number RA-89106), flying from Moscow to St. Petersburg on Thursday morning, returned to the capital’s airport due to engine problems. According to RIA Novosti, the plane's tripped . engine failure sensor

• Another SSJ-100 of Azuimut Airlines (tail number RA-89121), flying from Nizhnevartovsk to Mineralnye Vody, returned to the departure airport due to the fact that it could not retract the landing gear.
• The Azimuth airliner regularly gets into accidents. According to Russianplanes, the aircraft has been in operation since the end of 2018, and since November 2019, the design bureau handed it over to Azimut. On its second flight as part of the airline, the airliner made an emergency landing due to a technical malfunction, reported the Aviaincident telegram channel, which aggregates all incidents in aviation.
• During four years of active operation, the aircraft experienced technical problems at least eight times. Three times (including the incident on Thursday) the airliner returned to the airport of departure ( 1 , 2 , 3 ), four times flights on it were canceled due to problems identified at the airport ( 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ), and once the crew stopped takeoff right on the runway.
• The Rossiya aircraft, which entered service in 2017, broke down less frequently. According to Aviaincident reports, it has only experienced problems three times (including Thursday's incident), and the previous times they were identified before takeoff ( 1 , 2 ).

Context . After the start of the war, the European Union and the United States imposed a ban on the import of aircraft and spare parts to Russia, and the largest aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus refused to service aircraft from Russia. Difficulties have also arisen with the maintenance of Russian SSJ-100s, which are also heavily dependent on Western components.

• Moreover, problems with the Sukhoi Superjet 100 arose long before the war. Airlines complained about difficulties with the planes, and Red Wings Airlines and the Belgian Brussels Airlines completely abandoned these aircraft due to the high cost of maintenance and frequent failures. After the Superjet crash at Sheremetyevo Airport in 2019, during which 41 people died, about 130 thousand Russians signed a petition demanding a ban on flights on these planes.
