The court sent to a pre-trial detention center a resident of St. Petersburg who, on the day of Navalny’s death, put an “inaccurate inscription” on the fence

The Krasnoselsky District Court of St. Petersburg arrested local resident Evgeny Smirnov, who, on the day the news about the murder of Alexei Navalny appeared, painted graffiti on a barrier structure. This was reported by the joint press service of the city courts.

A criminal case has been opened against him for hooliganism motivated by political hatred (clause “b” of part 1 of article 213 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, on February 16, “no later than 4:34 p.m.,” using a can of red paint, he painted an “unreliable inscription” on a barrier structure opposite the bus stop on Avangardnaya Street. The exact content of the inscription is unknown.

On the same day, the person involved in the case was detained, the court sent him into custody until at least March 15. During the meeting, Smirnov asked to be given a more lenient preventive measure, since he “does not intend to hide and must help his elderly grandmother.” He is considered a suspect in the case.
