The former Russian governor Sevastopol detained in London was released on bail

Former Russian governor of the annexed Sevastopol Dmitry Ovsyannikov was released on bail in London. Earlier, he was accused of violating the sanctions regime and laundering of money. In anticipation of the court, he must hand over his British and Russian passports to the authorities, correspondents of TASS and BBC reported from the courtroom.

The Russian official was not previously reported about British citizenship. The sanctions list on the UK government website indicates only Russian citizenship of the official. It is known that Ovsyannikov was detained in his house in London.

Ovsyannikov cannot approach the ports, airports and stations, from where you can leave the country. He is obliged not to leave his London house from 21:00 to 05:00, to wear an electronic bracelet and celebrate daily in a police station. In essence, the criminal case will begin to be considered in March.

Russian legislation forbids officials to be citizens of other states. Ovsyannikov headed the city annexed by Russia from 2017 to 2019. Before and after that, he was deputy Russian Minister of Industry and Trade. In 2020, he was removed from his post and fired from the government.

For work in Crimea, he was under the sanctions of the European Union, Great Britain and a number of other countries. From the EU sanctions list he was excluded by a court decision, noting that the official no longer holds the position for which restrictions were introduced against him.
