More than 150 Russian scientists and scientific journalists signed an open letter against the war with Ukraine.
The letter is published on the website of the newspaper Trinity Option - Science , the collection of signatures continues there. Colta.ru gives the text of the letter completely:
An open letter of Russian scientists and scientific journalists against the war with Ukraine
We, Russian scientists and scientific journalists, declare a decisive protest against hostilities begun by the armed forces of our country in Ukraine. This fatal step leads to huge human victims and undermines the foundations of the prevailing system of international security. Responsibility for the outbreak of a new war in Europe lies entirely in Russia.
There are no reasonable excuses for this war. Attempts to use the situation in the Donbass as an occasion for the deployment of a military operation do not cause any trust. It is quite obvious that Ukraine does not pose a threat to the security of our country. The war against her is unfair and frankly meaningless.
Ukraine was and remains close to us. Many of us have relatives, friends and colleagues in scientific work in Ukraine. Our fathers, grandfathers and great -grandfathers fought together against Nazism. The unleashing of war for the sake of geopolitical ambitions of the leadership of the Russian Federation, moved by doubtful historiosophical fantasies, is a cynical betrayal of their memory.
We respect Ukrainian statehood, which rests on really working democratic institutions. We are understanding with the European choice of our neighbors. We are convinced that all problems in relations between our countries can be solved peacefully.
Having untied the war, Russia condemned itself to international isolation, to the position of a rogue country. This means that we, scientists, now we will not be able to normally do our own thing: after all, conducting scientific research is unthinkable without full cooperation with colleagues from other countries. The isolation of Russia from the world means the further cultural and technological degradation of our country in the complete absence of positive prospects. The war with Ukraine is a step to nowhere.
It is bitter to realize that our country, which has made a decisive contribution to the victory over the Nazism, has now become the arsonist of the new war on the European continent. We demand an immediate stop of all hostilities directed against Ukraine. We demand the respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state. We demand peace for our countries. Let's engage in science, not war!
