Businessman Oleg Tinkov announced that he has decided to close the Tinkov Family Foundation and also to leave the board of trustees of the Leukemia Foundation because the Russian authorities have declared him a “foreign agent.”

"A couple of weeks ago, the Russian regime called me a so-called 'foreign agent'... It is unclear how a foreigner can be under foreign influence, but this oxymoron only confirms the stupidity, savagery and desperation of today's Russia," Tinkov said. According to him, "it is funny and indifferent" to him, "but not to the hundreds and thousands of blood cancer patients in Russia."

Tinkov said that over the past two and a half years, his family has invested tens of millions of dollars in purchasing medical equipment throughout Russia and has also begun developing a bone marrow donor registry in Russia.

"Now I am forced to close our family foundation. I hope that the Leukemia Foundation will continue to work and help patients with blood cancer. Governments should spend their money on treating diseases, not on war. Unfortunately, this is the terrible state your country is in," Tinkov added.

In December 2020, Tinkov announced complete remission. During his treatment, Tinkov underwent three courses of chemotherapy and underwent a bone marrow transplant.
