The Basmanny District Court of Moscow received materials from a case about the dissemination of military “fakes” by a group of people and on the grounds of political hatred (clauses “b” and “e”, Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code) and inciting hatred or enmity with the use of violence or the threat of it application (clause “a”, part 2 of article 282 of the Criminal Code) against Vladimir Shilov, a high-ranking Ukrainian police officer. Mediazona drew attention to the case file.
The man has been wanted since October 2022. In May, the Investigative Committee reported on the case against him under the article of incitement to hatred. The reason for this was a video in which “Vladimir Shilov reports that he gave the order not to take Russian military prisoners, but to kill them on the spot.”
In addition, on February 5, 2024, Shilov was added to the Rosfinmonitoring list of extremists and terrorists.
It is unknown what became the reason for prosecution under the article on “fake news”.
- Article 207.3 (Public dissemination of knowingly false information about the use of the armed forces of the Russian Federation) was included in the Criminal Code in March 2022 - in this way the authorities responded to anti-war speeches and statements, as well as the dissemination of information about the war that does not come from official Russian sources. The maximum penalty under this article is 15 years in prison.
