FSB killed Belarusian who insulted Lukashenko

In Karelia, FSB officers killed 49-year-old Belarusian Nikolai Alekseev during his arrest. The intelligence service claims that he allegedly planned a terrorist attack in the city of Olonets on instructions from the Ukrainian special services.

Interfax does not name the murdered man, but reports that the man, born in 1974, was a member of the nationalist formation “Kastus Kalinovsky Regiment” banned in Belarus and was on the interstate wanted list.

According to the FSB, he collected and transferred information about transport infrastructure facilities and executive authorities of the region to the Ukrainian special services.

“Acting on the instructions of the curators, the object removed weapons and an improvised explosive device from a cache previously equipped for it, with the aim of blowing up one of the administrative buildings of the city of Olonets,” the FSB Public Relations Center said in a statement. It also notes that during the arrest he allegedly resisted and began shooting at the security forces.

The Astra Telegram channel, citing its own unnamed sources, writes that a criminal case on preparation for a terrorist attack (Part 1 of Article 30, Part 1 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code) was opened against Alekseev on the day of his murder.

Alekseev’s death was confirmed to the Belarusian publication Nasha Niva by one of his sons, Vlad. He also said that his mother went to the Karelian morgue, where FSB officers took her phone.

Nikolai Alekseev took part in the protests that swept the country in 2020 after the presidential elections, in which Alexander Lukashenko declared himself the winner. The slain activist also opposed the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Baza and Shot write that Alekseev has been wanted since September 2022 for insulting Alexander Lukashenko.
