The Sibay City Court in Bashkortostan arrested local resident Fangiz Sharifgaleev for nine days because of his participation in a public gathering in Baymak. This was reported by the local telegram channels “ Once Upon a Time in Bashkiria ” and “ Aspects - Bashkortostan ”.
The man was found guilty under the article on participation in an uncoordinated public event that resulted in disruption of the movement of pedestrians and vehicles (Part 6.1 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). Sharifgaleev was detained on March 6 at work. The next day he was brought to court.
According to the judge’s ruling, which OVD-Info has at its disposal, the man was on the square in front of the Baymak City Court on January 17 and participated in an uncoordinated action. On that day, this court pronounced a sentence on the Bashkir activist Fail Alsynov.
Sharifgaleev’s sister told OVD-Info that the security forces intend to send him to Ufa. It is not yet known whether any criminal case is going to be filed against him. Fangiz Sharifgaleev works as a security guard, he is raising two young children and is the only breadwinner in the family.
- Fail Alsynov is a Bashkir activist and ex-leader of the Bashkort movement, who was sentenced to four years in prison for speaking at a national gathering. On January 17, the day Alsynov was sentenced, residents of Bashkortostan who sympathized with the activist gathered at the court. After the verdict was announced, security forces began to detain protesters, and clashes began. Administrative cases and a criminal case for mass riots were opened against the participants of the gathering, which became the reason for numerous searches, detentions and arrests. - A criminal case against Alsynov was opened in October 2023 due to an April speech at a gathering of residents of the Baymak region against gold miners, which he conducted entirely in the Bashkir language. In it, the activist criticized the mobilization in the republic and the lack of access of local residents to the natural resources of the region. Alsynov himself later explained that the security forces “didn’t like” his statement about “migrants who come to the republic and are engaged here, including in illegal mining.” Before the sentencing, he was under recognizance not to leave the place.
