Election observer beaten in police station

Communist Party observer Vera Indienko was beaten at the police station after being detained at a polling station on March 16. this with reference to the girl’s friends reports The Agency . She herself told them about this in court, which sentenced her to 12 days of arrest under the article on displaying prohibited symbols (Part 1 of Article 20.3 of the Administrative Code).

Indienko was an observer at site No. 369 in the Moscow district of Koptevo. On March 16, she told her friend that the chairman of the commission allegedly had a “paper from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation” in her phone about the revocation of Indienko’s observer powers. After that she stopped communicating. Indienko's friends found her at the Koptevsk police station at night.

Later it turned out that the reason for the detention of the observer was the denunciation of other observers. They said that the girl, chatting from her mobile phone, used “radical words” and also “called for arson, thereby interfering with the electoral process.” Policeman Alexei Elizarov, who arrived at the polling station, studied Indienko’s VKontakte account and found in it a photo of a girl in a white, blue and white jacket with the caption “I vote for the change of power.” The security officer considered this a post “against the current government” and called the white-blue-white color the symbols of the “Russian Freedom Legion.” Indienko herself said that these colors do not mean anything, and that she made the jacket herself about three years ago.

The Koptevsky District Court arrested Indienko for 12 days, despite the fact that she is the only parent of a five-year-old child. Before the meeting, the girl told her friends that while she was in the police department, they put a bag over her head and beat her.

“They beat Vera on the head and put a bag over her head. But due to the fact that, thank God, the bag was quite thin, she tore it. They laughed, they mocked, they laughed, they were rude, they pushed. But there are no obvious signs of beatings. They know how to hit,” one of Indienko’s acquaintances told the Agency.

At the trial, the girl said that an unknown person without identification marks beat her at the police station, but the judge ignored this, the Agency notes.

The publication writes that security forces took testimony from Indienko’s brother, who adheres to pro-government views. He said that Vera Indienko supports the opposition and attended the funeral of Alexei Navalny.
