Billionaire Elon Musk, in an interview with American journalist Don Lemon , said that his doctor prescribed him ketamine to combat depression.
“There are times when I have a kind of negative chemical state in my brain, like depression [...] And ketamine helps with bad mood,” Musk said, noting that the issue of his prescriptions is too personal.
According to Musk, the prescription for ketamine was written by a “real doctor.” The businessman emphasized that he does not abuse drugs. Ketamine, according to Musk, does not affect his work.
“If you take too much, you won’t be able to work, and I have a lot of work to do. <...> I take a small amount every two weeks or so,” Musk explained.
He also added that he experiences depressive episodes, but they are not constant. Musk believes his tendency toward depression is down to genetics.
At the same time, Musk emphasized that he does not drink alcohol or smoke marijuana. Lemon reminded him that he smoked marijuana while recording a podcast with Joe Rogan in 2018. “I took one puff. Anyone who smokes marijuana will say, “I don’t know how to smoke it properly,” Musk replied.
In January of this year, The Wall Street Journal reported on Musk's use of cocaine, ketamine, LSD, ecstasy and psilocybin mushrooms at private parties. The publication referred to people from Musk’s circle who insisted that the businessman continues to use drugs, in particular ketamine.
The WSJ article then emphasized that six companies, part of the US space program, as well as the total assets of investors worth about a trillion dollars depend on Musk.
Musk responded to reporters with a post on the social network X. He wrote that since recording the podcast with Joe Rogan, at the request of NASA, he had undergone tests that did not record “even residual traces” of drugs in his body.
