Ukrainian forces “successfully hit” Russian large landing ships Yamal and Azov. This was reported by the Center for Strategic Communications of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In addition, according to the center, the Ukrainian Armed Forces hit the communications center and several infrastructure facilities of the Black Sea Fleet.
The Russian side did not officially comment on the destruction of the ships. The pro-war telegram channel “Rybar” claims that two missiles tried to attack the warship parking lot in the Sevastopol area, but the missiles were shot down. The debris, as the report says, fell near the pier in Sevastopol Bay.
In early March, the Ukrainian side announced the destruction of the newest patrol ship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, Sergei Kotov, as a result of an attack. It became part of the Black Sea Fleet in July 2022.
The pro-government Channel One called the Sergei Kotov the “most modern” patrol ship. He also noted that “the special design and coating make it virtually invisible to enemy radars.”
Shortly before this, the Ukrainian side destroyed a number of other Russian ships, including the large landing ship Caesar Kunikov and the missile boat Ivanovets.
As experts interviewed by Kholod noted in February, attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Black Sea Fleet forced the command to relocate ships. They were transferred from Sevastopol to Novorossiysk.
As Kholod wrote , the change in deployment limited the capabilities of the fleet. This was due to the fact that all logistics support is located in Sevastopol, and the port of Novorossiysk, for example, is not even equipped for loading Caliber missiles onto ships.
