The attacker of the police department was detained in Yerevan

In Yerevan, special forces detained a man who attacked a police department. The press secretary of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, Narek Sargsyan, told Novaya Gazeta Europe about this.

According to him, two other attackers were hospitalized after the grenade explosion.

The attack on the Nor-Nork police station in Yerevan occurred this afternoon.

Initially, a version was expressed that it was connected with the detention on March 24 of about 50 members of the Combat Brotherhood. This organization opposes the transfer of border territories to Azerbaijan. As Interfax notes , they intended to go to the village of Voskepar in the Tavush region, bordering Azerbaijan, to organize self-defense together with local residents. However, the movement subsequently issued a message denying involvement in the incident.

The villages in question were occupied by the Armenian army in 1991-1992. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, at a meeting with residents of the village of Voskepar, said that if Armenia does not agree to discuss the delimitation and demarcation of the border, then Azerbaijan could start a war. “They [Baku] say, let’s mutually liberate the populated parts of the villages, and then discuss their vital territories. And our policy is that we should not allow a war to start. This is the reason that we decided that we should go to clarify the border of Armenia in this area,” Pashinyan said.
