The Ukrainian Navy reported damage to a landing ship in Sevastopol

As a result of a Ukrainian missile strike on annexed Sevastopol on March 23, the large landing ship Konstantin Olshansky was damaged. Speaker of the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Dmitry Pletenchuk announced this on the FREEDOM TV channel.

He clarified that this is a Ukrainian ship that was captured by the Russian military during the annexation of Crimea in 2014. After that, according to Pletenchuk, the ship stood idle in the bay of Sevastopol and was “dismantled for parts.” “And in the tenth year of the war, they realized that they were running out of large landing ships of Project 775 and a decision was made to restore it,” Pletenchuk explained.

According to him, the Russian military was restoring the Ukrainian ship in order to pass it off as their own. However, the nature of the damage was “such that its recovery is still a big question,” Pletenchuk said. “This ship was supposed to be used against Ukraine, unfortunately. Therefore, a decision was made to destroy this unit with our Neptune,” said the speaker of the Ukrainian Navy. He also said that the extent of the damage to the ship was still being determined, but assured that the Konstantin Olshansky “is not in a state of combat readiness.”

On the evening of March 23, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a missile strike on annexed Sevastopol. Ukrainian military officials said the Russian large landing ships Yamal and Azov, as well as “several infrastructure facilities,” were “hit” as a result.

Later, Russian independent media reported that the Ivan Khurs reconnaissance ship, as well as one of the workshops of the 13th ship repair plant, were also damaged as a result of the strike.
