The goalkeeper of the Russian national hockey team Ivan Fedotov moved to the Philadelphia Flyers club of the National Hockey League (NHL).

“Ivan Fedotov, welcome to Philadelphia,” says the club’s message on the social network X.

Previously, the 27-year-old athlete played for CSKA Moscow. The day before, the Russian club terminated the contract with Fedotov. At the same time, CSKA stated that the rights to the player in Russia still remain with the Moscow club.

Over the years, Ivan Fedotov played for the clubs Neftekhimik, Salavat Yulaev and Traktor. Since 2021 he has played for CSKA Moscow.
In May 2022, it became known that the athlete signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers. Soon after this, the hockey player was suspected of evading military duty, detained and sent to serve in the army.
In 2023, Fedotov retired and then signed a new two-year contract with CSKA. The NHL considered that the goalkeeper’s agreements with the Moscow club contradicted the terms of the current agreement with the Philadelphia Flyers. The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) decided that Fedorov’s contract with the NHL club is valid for the 2023/24 season. As a result, CSKA was banned from making international transfers for a year, and Fedotov was suspended from matches until the end of 2023. The Moscow club and the player tried to appeal this decision, but the IIHF rejected their appeal.
