The countries “sympathizing with Russia” urge the European Union to abandon the confiscation of frozen Russian assets. Representatives of China, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia made this position in private, Politico writes with reference to sources.

These three states addressed the EU representatives with a call to “resist the pressure from the United States and Great Britain,” which insist on the confiscation of Russian assets.

According to one of the interlocutors of Politico, China, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia are afraid that the confiscation of Russian state assets will “create a precedent” and they may “be the following”.

“I am ready to agree that the Russians could ask their friends to raise this noise,” says a high -ranking diplomat from a country that is not part of the EU.

These states can also believe that the confiscation of Russian assets will further tighten the Russian war with Ukraine and force them to take someone’s conflict, Politico notes.

• Since the beginning of the full -scale war of Russia with Ukraine in the West, about 280 billion euros remain frozen. Most of the funds (about 210 billion euros) are stored in the European Union, including in the form of cash and government bonds.
