WP: The United States in two weeks indicated Russia to Crocus as a goal of attack

Aftermaths of Deadly Attack on Moscow Concert Hall

The United States warned the Russian special services about the threat of a terrorist attack, indicating that it could occur in this concert hall. This is written by The Washington Post with reference to two unnamed American officials familiar with the situation.

“The high degree of concreteness of warning emphasizes Washington’s confidence that the Islamic State is preparing an attack that threatens a large number of civilians, and directly contradicts Moscow’s statements that the US warnings were too general to help prevent a terrorist attack,” the publication says.

Washington regularly shares information about possible terrorist attacks with foreign states, however, "to transmit to the enemy information about specific goals is an unusual step," experts surveyed by the publication noted.

Since, according to them, this can lead to the disclosure of how the United States received information and put up with intelligence activities or human sources. However, information about the preparation of the attack in the concert hall also meant a potential threat to Americans in Russia, the article explains.

According to the newspaper, the United States warned of two potential purposes - the synagogue and the concert hall. On March 7, the FSB announced the prevention of an attack on the synagogue, while the department claimed that this was the involved Afghan cell of the Islamic State “Vilayat Khorasan”. She will take responsibility for the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall.

The director of the FSB, Alexander Bortnikov, after the attack, claimed that the information transferred to the United States "was of a general nature."

  • On the evening of March 22, several people in camouflage form arranged firing at the Crocus City Hall concert hall near Moscow, then an explosion occurred there and a fire began. According to the latest official data, 144 people were killed as a result of the attack, another 382 were injured.
  • In the case of the attack, 10 people were arrested, including four performers, most of them are citizens of Tajikistan. The alleged performers with a high degree of probability encountered torture during detention and interrogations.
