Since the beginning of the year, the Federal Information System for Monitoring the Forest Fires "WDM-ROSHOZHOZ" has recorded 81 times more fires than the Aviation Service reports.

The total area of ​​forest fires in Russia from January 1 to March 31 amounted to 485,265 hectares, of which 140 058 hectares were covered with forest. However, according to the summary of the aircraft guard, based on the information of regional dispatch services, the area of ​​forest fires for the same period amounted to only 6023 hectares.

“Remote monitoring, of course, has a certain error in determining the area of ​​fires, and it is especially large, if the fires are relatively small,” explains the forest expert Alexei Yaroshenko. - And there are objective sources of errors, for example, technogenic heat sources. But the ISDM system has been working for more than twenty years, and all this time is being improved. Even in the spring, when the fires are predominantly small, it provides a pretty decent accuracy of their accounting, and cannot make mistakes ten times in the scale of the whole country. ”

As the expert explains, the reason for the discrepancy may be that the reports of aircraft guns take into account only officially registered fires on the lands of the forest fund. But there are other burning forests - for example, arising on the lands of agricultural recognition. Nobody is responsible for fires in such forests, moreover, the owners of the sites often get rid of vegetation with burning.

“A significant proportion of forest fires is just associated with the so -called“ controlled preventive burning, ”Yaroshenko said.“ Theoretically, these profiles should be carried out with all the necessary measures of fire safety. But in practice they often are no different from simple hooligan arson of dry grass, and fire is spilled in very large areas. This does not fall reports and reports - after all, the same people are responsible for the reports and for professional -lingering in the field.

Yaroshenko notes: the discrepancy in the data 81 times interferes with the adoption of strategic decisions to ensure fire safety in the natural territories. It is on the basis of reports, the expert emphasizes, official statistics on forest fires are formed, and distance monitoring does not directly affect it.

“Statistics are what officials eventually operate on. Plus, the damage is considered only for those fires that fall into the reports, and a decrease in damage from fires is the main forest -burning indicator of the Ecology national project, ”the expert notes.

Data from the reports of the aircraft guns look quite safe - this means that no fundamental changes are needed.

“But the data of remote monitoring says the opposite: that the situation is not even worse than the average and year old - but fundamental improvements are also not visible either. This means that the risk of repeating large disasters associated with forest and in general landscape fires has not gone anywhere. And, based on the experience of past years, landscape fires with catastrophic consequences for settlements and infrastructure are possible in the coming weeks. ”

Earlier, the hydrometeorological center published a fire hazard forecast in Russian forests. According to the agency, since April, in a number of regions of Russia, high and emergency classes of fire hazard have been expected. In this case, the cause of the onset of most spring fires is precisely preventive burning and careless handling of fire from a person.
