Kazakhstani feminists demand a fair trial in the murder of Saltanat Nukenova. In the bench of the defendants is her husband - the former Minister of the National Economy of Kazakhstan Kuandyk Bishimbaev.
On the night of November 8 to 9, Saltanat Nukenova informed Bishimbaev that she wanted to leave him. A few hours later, the woman died of severe injuries received during a quarrel. At one of the court sessions, they read out the conclusion of a medical examination, where it is noted that Nukenova received a closed head injury, multiple abrasions and bruises of her face, left-handed shell, left-wing region. During the beating in the restaurant, where Nukenova met with her husband, the director of the institution came , a relative of Bishimbaeva Bakhytzhan Bayzhanov. He helped to hide the crime by dissolving the staff and deleting the video from the surveillance cameras. However, later the video, where Nukenova’s beating is captured in a restaurant, was still restored.
Bishimbaev claims that Nukenov “received it in the fall” and that he “did not beat her with his fist” . Bishimbaev’s defense aims to retrape the crime by replacing the articles “ Murder Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan 99 h. 2 p. 5 with particular cruelty "and" Torture 110 h. 2 p. 1 "for" murder by negligence. "
The accusation has the information that Bishimbaev forbade his wife to communicate with relatives: Tsami and friends, controlled her calls, correspondence and movement, and also forbade the woman to work. “This was accompanied by an aggressive expression of a sense of unreasonable and far -fetched by his sick imagination of jealousy,” the prosecutor said at one of the meetings. According to the investigation, Bishimbaev systematically applied physical violence to his wife.
During the interrogation, the defendant does not admit his guilt in the death of Nukenova: “He began to wake her, she did not wake up. There was a big bruise on the whole left side of the face and a swollen nose. I was very worried and called a friend clairvoyant. I say: "She did not wake up, she has such a bruise." She said: "She is just tired, come to her senses, go home." It was relieved of my heart, ” Bishimbaev said at the hearing on April 3.
In 2017, Bishimbaev was sentenced to ten years in prison for receiving bribes on an especially large scale. However, two years later, the court granted his petition for parole.
The decriminalization of family violence in 2017 led to impunity and an increase in crime, says the #nonsense fund. Kazakhstani feminists advocate the law on criminal violence, the adoption of which is delayed , despite massive petitions.
