The City Court of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky repeatedly considered the criminal case of employees of the Kronotsky Reserve, who were accused of embezzlement of 454.6 million rubles allocated to clean the specially protected natural area. The defendants were appointed conditional imprisonment for terms of 2.5 to 5 years.

The largest conditional term was received by the deputy director for financial and legal support of Oksana Terekhova - 5 years. The deputy director for cognitive tourism, Roman Korchigin, was appointed 3 years conditionally, former employees Daria Panicheva and Nikolai Pozdnyakova - 2.5 and 3.5 years conditionally, respectively.

Only entrepreneur Ruslan Oshurov received real imprisonment for a period of 4.5 years of a general regime colony - his company performed work to clean the reserve.

Lawyers prepare documents for appeal: at the trial, the accused insisted on their innocence.

“Today's court decision is a won fight in a lawying battle that has not yet been won, but this is a significant step towards justice. Colossal work was carried out on the side of protection. <...> In comparison with the initial sentence, we were able to mitigate the punishment. In the near future we will prepare documents for filing appeals, ”lawyer Alexander Andreev commented on the court’s decision.

Recall that in July 2022, employees of the Kronotsky Reserve were sentenced to actually deprivation of liberty from 3 to 5.5 years on charges of embezzlement of 454.6 million rubles allocated to eliminate accumulated environmental damage. According to the prosecutor’s office, the reserve employees committed a “intentional embezzlement in an organized criminal group” (part 4 of article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), stole the money allocated to clean the reserve, and buried garbage on its territory. The accused insisted that garbage was taken out of the reserve and no criminal group - they only fulfilled their duties. In February 2023, the regional court abolished the verdict and sent the case for a new consideration. The trial has been going on for more than five years.
