A dam has broken in Orsk, Orenburg Region, TASS reports, citing emergency services. The Orsk Unified Dispatch Service told Interfax that the dam was broken by a flood.
Residents of the city are being evacuated from houses located in the flood zone, the agency's source said. According to the city administration, 4,258 houses and 10,987 people may be in the flood zone. "The dam break primarily threatens the private sector of Orsk," emergency services told TASS.
According to the publication "Ural56.ru", evacuation is underway from the old city of Orsk.
Rescuers and municipal services are trying to strengthen the dam, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.
Almost all drinking water in Orsk stores has been sold out .
There were no casualties after the dam burst in Orsk, the Orenburg regional government reported .
At the same time, Orenburg Mayor Sergei Salmin called on residents of suburban settlements and gardening associations to urgently evacuate due to the rising water level in the Ural River. According to him, more than 300 households and 750 plots of land have been flooded.
