The Moscow City Court dismissed the case under the “rally” article against animal rights activist Liana Sitarchuk. This was reported by her lawyer from OVD-Info, Evgeny Kurakin.
On January 23, 2023, animal activists stood in front of the Cheryomushkinsky District Court building with posters “Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: Killing a cat = a criminal offense!” and "Art. 245: The flayer belongs in prison! There, the verdict was announced in the case of cruelty to animals against Oleg Krivyakov.
After the picket, activists threw the posters into the trash. However, some time later on the same day, Sitarchuk returned to pick them up, and she was detained . The activist was charged with violating the rules of participation in a public event (Part 5 of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code). On March 27, 2023, the Gagarinsky District Court of Moscow fined Sitarchuk 10 thousand rubles.
On appeal, the case was dismissed due to lack of evidence of an offense.
- The court sentenced Oleg Krivyakov to two and a half years in prison under articles on cruelty to animals (Article 245 of the Criminal Code) and hooliganism (Article 213 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, the defendant shot the cats he came across with an air rifle. Krivyakov himself does not deny this, claiming that he planned to stop the spread of coronavirus in this way.
