Roskomnadzor demanded that Duolingo check its content for “LGBT propaganda”

Roskomnadzor sent a request to the language learning service Duolingo to check its content for “LGBT propaganda,” the department’s press service told Interfax.

As noted, the RKN recalled that the service “has Russian analogues,” but they are not mentioned in the Interfax note.

Conservative activists from the Siberian human rights group Radetel demanded to check the contents of the service back in February.

As an example of “LGBT propaganda,” Guardian activists cited sentences from assignments that had to be translated: “Ben and Peter love each other. They are gay" and "Clara met her wife Maria at lesbian bar."

In September last year, Guardian activists achieved in Novosibirsk the cancellation of the performance of symphonic versions of Rammstein songs, and after that they wrote denunciations against the local Elton Bar, which is now being checked for extremism - this is stated in the response of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, published by the activists themselves.

Duolingo is a free language learning service launched in the United States.
