Turkish airline accused of discrimination against Russians

The Turkish airline Turkish Airlines denied boarding on a transit flight to three Russian tourists who were flying to Mexico. The incident occurred on April 8, said the vice-president of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia Artur Muradyan.

“No official documents were issued to the passengers about the denial of boarding. A representative of the airline did not appear to them; the Moscow representative office of the carrier also refused to help in the situation and avoided commenting. And instead of 16 days in Cancun, the tourists flew home,” he explained.

One of the victims told RIA Novosti that the decision to not allow passengers onto Turkish Airlines flights is made by a third-party company that ensures security at the airport. She claims that she received this answer from the Turkish carrier.

Muradyan said that Turkish Airlines denies boarding on transit flights not only to passengers without luggage, return tickets and with a “clean” passport, but also to those flying on vouchers.

“The situation with Turkish Airlines transit flights is becoming openly discriminatory. It would be absolutely reasonable now to refrain from transit transportation on flights of Turkish carriers in favor of other options,” says Muradyan. As an alternative, he suggested flights from Middle Eastern airlines.

Russian Consul General in Istanbul Andrei Buravov previously said that the problem of preventing Russians from boarding flights from Istanbul to Argentina and Brazil has become systematic. According to him, this situation has been observed since the end of February.
