Iran has warned the United States through several Arab countries that if Washington intervenes in the conflict between Iran and Israel, American bases in the region will be attacked, Axios reports, citing three unnamed American officials.
According to the publication's sources, Iran has made it clear to Arab countries that it holds the United States responsible for Israel's attack on the consulate in Damascus, which killed seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
It is unclear from the communications received whether Iran is threatening to attack U.S. forces if they help Israel intercept Iranian-launched ballistic missiles or only if they participate in an Israeli retaliatory strike, one of the sources told Axios.
At the same time, he noted that intelligence believes that US bases will only be attacked if the Americans directly join the Israeli counterattack.
