The Ministry of Justice declared journalist Ilya Barabanov a “foreign agent”. The Meduza publishing house has just published his book about Wagner PMCs - co-authored with Denis Korotkov

The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation has updated the register of “foreign agents”, adding to it the journalist of the BBC Russian Service Ilya Barabanov.

The department’s statement said that the journalist opposed the “special military operation” and also disseminated “inaccurate information” about the decisions taken by Russian authorities and the policies they pursue. In addition, Barabanov took part in the creation of messages and materials of “foreign agents,” the Ministry of Justice said.

In addition to him, the department added to the register journalists Asya Kazantseva, Ivan Filippov and Ivan Astashin, as well as Yabloko deputy from Zavelichenskaya volost in the Pskov region Nikolai Kuzmin and Foreign Agent AVK LLC journalist Andrei Karaulov (he was included in the register in the summer of 2023)

• The Meduza publishing house published the book “Our Business is Death,” which tells about the PMCs of Wagner and Yevgeny Prigozhin. Its authors, Ilya Barabanov and Denis Korotkov, spent eight years collecting an archive of internal documents of the PMC and the Concord holding. These materials, together with the testimonies of real “Wagnerites,” formed the basis of the book, making it the most complete history of PMCs.
