Nearly 200 people were trapped on a broken funicular in Antalya, Turkey.

On the evening of April 12, an accident occurred on the cable car in Antalya, Turkey. Part of the cable car's support broke off and hit one of the cabins, destroying it. As a result, the people inside fell from a great height. One person was killed and ten more were injured, RIA Novosti reported . After this, the movement of the funicular was stopped, and 184 people were trapped in its cabins at a height.

Turkish authorities have launched a rescue operation involving more than 500 people, including climbers, and seven helicopters. Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced this on the social network X.

Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunç later said that authorities had launched an investigation into the incident. In turn, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that it had sent a C-130 transport aircraft to help rescuers.

On the morning of April 13, Yerlikaya reported that rescuers managed to evacuate 98 people from 15 cable car cabins.

The Russian Consulate General in Antalya said it had no information about Russians injured in the accident.

As RIA Novosti notes, one of the eyewitnesses reported that the accident on the funicular was preceded by a loud bang, similar to an explosion. Footage of the damaged cable car cabin that has circulated online shows that it is badly damaged and has no bottom.
