Analysts: the strike on Israel showed the vulnerability of Ukraine

Israel's success in defending against missiles and drones launched from Iran on April 13 underscores Ukraine's vulnerability due to its geography and deteriorating air defense systems. The Institute for the Study of War writes about this.

Analysts believe that Iran's attack is similar to attacks on Ukrainian territory by Russia. According to them, the Russian army regularly carries out combined attacks using cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as drones.

However, Iran's strike was less successful, since Israeli air defense systems intercepted almost all air targets, with the exception of a few ballistic missiles.

At the same time, Iranian drones and missiles crossed more than a thousand kilometers of airspace in Iraq, Syria and Jordan before they reached Israel. Analysts say this helped Israel and its allies buy time to track and intercept the missiles.

Russian troops are launching drones and missiles from all occupied territories, as well as from regions in close proximity to the border with Ukraine. Because of this, the Ukrainian defense system has less time to repel attacks.

In addition, Israel has a robust air defense system that can counter attacks from missiles launched from closer ranges, including from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Ukraine lacks the resources to conduct an airborne interception using aircraft, as Israel did.

Analysts note that the depletion of US-provided air defense systems, delays in military aid and improvements in Russian strike tactics in Ukraine have led to an increase in the effectiveness of Russian attacks. According to experts, this could lead to significant successes for the Russian army on the battlefield.
