The object that struck the roof of a private house in Florida was a fragment of the International Space Station (ISS). This was reported in the National Directorate for Aeronautics and Space Studies (NASA).
The incident occurred in March. A resident of the city of Nipls in Florida Alejandro Otro told Wink-TV that he was on vacation when a frightened son called him. He told his father that an unknown object broke two layers of the roof of the house, forming large holes in the ceiling and floor.
“It was an incredibly powerful sound. The object almost touched my son. He was through two rooms [from the place of impact] and heard everything, ”said Otro. The man admitted that at first he thought that a meteorite crashed into his house.

When Otro returned home, he saw the object himself and described it as something artificially created, cylindrical and almost a kilogram weighing. The man was sure that the object flew out of space. “I was shaking, I was in complete bewilderment. What is the likelihood that something will fall into my house with such force and cause so much harm? I am very glad that no one was injured, ”said Otro.
A few weeks later, NASA said that the metal object, which landed at the house of Otro, was dropped from the ISS in March 2021. Then at the station, new lithium-ion batteries were installed and decided to throw the old-nickel-gydrid. It was assumed that all the old equipment weighing about 2.5 kilograms would completely burn during the entrance to the atmosphere of the Earth on March 8, 2024. However, its part survived and crashed into the house.
The press release states that the fragment has dimensions of 10.1 by 4 centimeters and is made of an Inconel metal alloy. The ISS will conduct a “detailed investigation” why it has not burned in the atmosphere, added to NASA.
