The Central District Military Court of Yekaterinburg received materials from four defendants in the “Tyumen case”, accused, among other things, of terrorism charges. This was reported by the telegram channel of the defendants' support group.
The preliminary hearing will take place on April 26. At the same time, the court will once again consider the issue of assigning a new preventive measure to the defendants in the case. They have been in pre-trial detention since August 2022.
The “Tyumen case” became known in early September 2022. In total, there are six defendants in the case: Nikita Oleynik, Yuri Neznamov, Deniz Aydin, Roman Paklin, Daniil Chertykov and Kirill Brik. The latter entered into a pre-trial agreement with the investigation and confessed, presumably under pressure. After this, Brik’s case was separated into separate proceedings, and itcame to court at the end of March.
Human rights activist Ivan Astashin also said in his Telegram channel that the case of Roman Paklin has been put on “pause”, since he was temporarily placed in a psychiatric hospital.
The young people were detained at the end of August in Tyumen, Yekaterinburg and Surgut. Oleinik is charged with creating a terrorist community (Part 1 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code), and everyone else is charged with participation in it (Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code). At the end of July, the defendants in the case were charged with new charges - under the article on preparation for a terrorist attack (Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code with the use of Part 1 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code). In December 2023, two more articles were added to the defendants - on the production of explosives as part of an organized criminal group (Part 3 of Article 223.1 of the Criminal Code) and on the storage of explosives or explosive devices as part of such a group (Part 4 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code). The reason for this was an explosive device allegedly found on Brik and Aydin - earlier, because of it, the article on the manufacture of explosives (Part 2 of Article 223.1 of the Criminal Code) was charged against the two of them.
According to investigators , Oleynik “created a terrorist community” because of “his hatred of the current government regime.” Over the course of a year, according to the prosecution, the young man involved his friends in this group in order to “carry out terrorist activities” in the Tyumen, Sverdlovsk regions and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, the investigation considers Brik and Aidyn to be “manufacturers” of explosives. During the search, a homemade explosive device was allegedly found on the young people. According to security officials, the young people planned to test it in the area of the Tyumen thermal power plant.
April 17. According to the case file on the court’s website, Deniz Aydin is also charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm out of hooligan motives with the use of weapons (clause “d” and clause “z” of Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code), and Daniil Chertykov is charged with illegal trafficking of potent substances (Part 1 of Article 234 of the Criminal Code). The Telegram channel “Tyumen Delo” writes that under this article Aydin is being persecuted because of an incident that occurred before he was placed in custody: he was attacked by several people, and therefore he had to defend himself. Chertykov said in a letter to his family that, according to the security forces, he allegedly provided other defendants in the case with strong painkillers. “Painkillers were indeed seized from other defendants in the case, but the investigation could not establish their presence,” the telegram channel clarifies.
The news has been corrected. Information has been added about the suspension of the case of Roman Paklin due to his placement in a psychiatric hospital.
21:40 Chertykov’s charge under the article on illegal trafficking in potent substances is related to painkillers found in the persons involved in the case, the support group clarifies .
The text of the news has been changed: initially the information about the article that Chertykov is charged with was indicated incorrectly
- The anti-fascist community believes that young people are being persecuted primarily for their anti-authoritarian views, comparing what is happening with the Network case . He was charged in October 2017. According to the FSB, 11 young people from Penza and St. Petersburg were going to overthrow the government. Some defendants in the case alleged psychological pressure, electric shock, beatings and planted weapons. Some of them retracted the confessions they gave in the first days after the arrests. In 2019 and 2020, defendants in the case from Penza and St. Petersburg were sentenced to terms ranging from 3.5 to 18 years in prison.
