Ukraine can send killers to the front

The head of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, Denis Malyuska, proposed mobilizing and immediately sending to the front those convicted of murder. As Strana.ua writes , he said this on air on the Rada TV channel.

“Perhaps those who know how to kill would be more effective even as military men than those who have not yet killed, and safer than those who robbed for decades and then were given a machine gun,” Malyuska said.

At the same time, he emphasized that all mobilized convicts will be immediately sent to the front-line zone.

“Prisoners will serve in separate units, that is, at least the existing schemes, when someone mobilized somehow manages to serve on the territory of the western regions of Ukraine, this will be impossible. These will definitely be units that will be located on the front line or close to it,” the minister noted.

He also noted that the mobilization of prisoners will help reduce the burden on the country's correctional institutions.

“The number of those who end up in our institutions is growing significantly; at some stage we may burst. Therefore, we need to think about how to reduce the number of those we care for in our institutions,” explained Malyuska.

In early April, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement Issues approved a bill on the mobilization of convicts. The document has already been adopted by the Ukrainian parliament in the first reading.

Until now, according to the head of the Ukrainian Council of Ground Forces Reservists, Ivan Timochko, the Ukrainian authorities had no legal grounds for conscripting prisoners.
