Berlin promised from January 2024 to put up to 400 MRAP armored personnel carriers with enhanced antimine protection from the Armed Forces of Ukraine (Armed Forces), but the deliveries have not yet begun, the Bild newspaper writes with reference to the representative of the German Ministry of Defense, as well as the document of the same department at its disposal.
The document dated September of 2023 states that armored vehicles should be delivered from January to October 2024 in batches of 20 units, Bild below.
According to her, the volume of these supplies for the current year was first reduced to 200, and then to 100 units, and their beginning was transferred to May-June. The reason was difficulties with the import of parts of armored vehicles, the assembly of which is carried out in Germany, from the United States.
The German defense company Flensburger Fahrzeugbau GmbH (FFG), which must produce MRAP, encountered "restrictions on the export license from the United States to Germany" , as well as problems with the certification of anti -mining protection, Bild reports. The amount of the contract funded from the German budget is 315 million euros.
Officially, the German defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced the supply of “100 secure infantry vehicles” as part of a package of military equipment to increase mobility on the battlefield .
In response to Bild's request, the Ministry of Defense explained that we are talking about MRAP armored vehicles, that is, "vehicles protected from mines and ambushes" of the production of the FFG weapons company. All cars will be delivered to Ukraine in 2024, the representative of the department said, DW reports.
