The authorities called Kant a “Russian trophy”

Governor of the Kaliningrad region Anton Alikhanov said at a session of the International Kant Congress that the German philosopher Immanuel Kant is a Russian trophy.

“Today we must talk about Kant for two reasons. A philosopher must be a live interlocutor; his ideas must be discussed, revised, argued with, and interpreted in the spirit of the times. Such a dialogue with the philosopher, his philosophy, gives rise to genuine thinking and, therefore, is a form of the highest respect for him. Second reason: Kant for us is our Russian trophy. Like everything you see in the Kaliningrad region,” Alikhanov said.

The Kaliningrad governor also believes that Russia is “in the center of a powerful cognitive war, where our enemy is partly trying to hide behind Kant’s legacy.”

“In our opinion, we could contrast it with our Russian interpretation of Kant, which is why we need a large-scale revision, such a recapitulation of the entire Kantian heritage, based on the current tasks that face our history, our thinking,” Alikhanov said.

In February of this year, Alikhanov accused Kant of unleashing a war in Ukraine. “Kant, who was born here, has almost a direct relation to the global chaos, the global reorganization that we are now facing. Moreover, it is directly related to the military conflict in Ukraine,” the governor said.

Alikhanov then added that the West allegedly “since ancient times violated all the agreements that were reached.”
