Lukashenko ordered to “dig and search” for oil in Belarus

Alexander Lukashenko ordered the discovery of oil deposits in Belarus. He gave this instruction to Sergei Maslyak when appointing him to the post of Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the Belarusian state agency BELTA reports .

“As for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, we recently held a serious meeting in this regard. I’ll tell you straight: you have to dig and look. In addition, you need to force everyone to work in this direction. I don't believe that we don't have what we need in our depths. Now, if you solve this problem to some extent, this monument can be erected anywhere,” Lukashenko told Maslyak.

At the same time, he noted that previously it was possible to find deposits of mineral fertilizers in Bealrus. “But I don’t believe that we don’t have larger volumes of oil,” Lukashenko emphasized.

He also noted that so far in Belarus only one company is engaged in oil exploration and production. Lukashenko made a reservation that he positively assessed both the work of the company as a whole and its leader. At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that there is no competition in this area.

“We didn’t come up with this idea—there must be competition. We need more opinions, more impressions, and so on,” he emphasized in a conversation with Maslyak.

At the end of March , it became known that Russia had increased imports of gasoline from Belarus significantly. This happened against the backdrop of a drop in Russian fuel production due to ongoing Ukrainian attacks on oil refineries.
