A driver in Chelyabinsk cut off two cyclists and scolded one of them for her appearance. The victim, Russian judoka, sambo wrestler and current UFC fighter Irina Alekseeva, told the Meta Fight project about this.
Meta Fight showed video captured by surveillance cameras in the parking lot. The footage shows how a gray car sharply cuts off the cyclists, after which a conversation takes place between the driver and one of the girls. Then Alekseeva slams her hand on the car, after which the driver gets out and a skirmish begins between them. A minute later, the driver gets behind the wheel again, and Alekseeva with a bicycle drives up to the car, and the conversation continues. Then the car drives away.
Alekseeva said that she was outraged by the actions of the driver who almost ran over her and her friend. The man said to the athlete: “Look at you, you’re in shorts and a T-shirt, you should be crushed like that. We don’t do that.” After Alekseeva asked several times “where is it?”, he answered: “In Dushanbe.”
“What don’t you like about my appearance? I walk the way I want, I am in my country. The fact that I'm wearing shorts and a T-shirt is normal. I’m not a Muslim to walk around covered,” Alekseeva told him. To this, the driver, according to her, replied: “This is not normal for us.” The athlete added that the driver shouted at her, insulted her and, among other things, uttered the phrase: “You are all pigs here, you need to be crushed.”
The Readovka Telegram channel published a video filmed by Alekseeva’s friend, in which the driver can be heard telling the athlete: “Are you even a girl or a boy? Should I talk to you like a man or like a girl? You can’t see your boobs, you don’t have a pussy, are you a girl or a boy?” To this Alekseeva asks: “Are you stupid?”
Alekseeva told Meta Fight that she was going to file a statement with the police. On the morning of April 23, a video with the driver’s apology appeared on the telegram channel of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. “I apologize to the girls of the city of Chelyabinsk for my behavior, this will not happen again,” says the man with a blurred face.
The police said that they detained and questioned the man. He turned out to be a 24-year-old foreigner who arrived in Russia in March. He is in the country legally, the department added. The operatives held a preventative conversation with him.
Last summer, a man was detained in the Moscow region for beating a girl who was jogging. He grabbed her hand and said: “Why do you look like that?” and hit him in the face. According to the victim's husband, she was wearing shorts and a T-shirt. Later, a criminal case was opened against the attacker for inciting hatred on grounds of gender (clause “a” of Part 2 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code).
In March 2023, in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, two men beat two college students because they had short haircuts and colored hair. The victims were taken to the hospital with a concussion.
