The Nikulinsky District Court of Moscow fined Meduza journalist Dmitry Kuznets 10 thousand rubles under the article on participation in the activities of an “undesirable organization” (Article 20.33 of the Administrative Code). Mediazona reports this with reference to the press service of the court.
A report was drawn up against Kuznets due to his participation in the publication’s podcast “What Happened?” in February 2024. The case became known on April 9.
The Prosecutor General's Office recognized SIA Medusa Project (the legal entity of the Meduza publication) as an “undesirable organization” in January 2023.
- Meduza was founded in 2014 and registered in Latvia. In April 2021, the Ministry of Justice recognized the publication as a “foreign agent.”
- Since 2015, according to Russian legislation , foreign or international organizations that, in the opinion of the authorities, pose a “threat to the foundations of the constitutional system of the Russian Federation, the defense capability of the country or the security of the state” can be recognized as “undesirable.” Such organizations are prohibited from operating in the country, and a number of other restrictions are also imposed on them - for example, they are not allowed to distribute information materials in Russia.
