8 participants in the protest campaign against the adoption by the Georgian parliament of the bill on "foreign agents" were hospitalized

The Ministry of Health of Georgia announced the hospitalization of eight injured protesters against the bill on "foreign agents", which was held at the parliament building in Tbilisi in the evening of May 1.

A day earlier, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (Ministry of Internal Affairs) of Georgia were also forced to use special equipment at the parliament building.

Earlier, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that the vote under the bill in the third reading will take place in two weeks.

The pro -Western president of the country Salome Zurabishvili promised to impose a veto on the bill after his approval by parliament. However, journalists note that the ruling party "Georgian Dream" has enough votes to overcome this presidential veto.

For several weeks on the streets of Tbilisi, demonstrators are protesting against the bill, the adoption of which is supported by the Georgian Dream. The bill was approved by the parliament in the first reading on April 17.

The explanatory note to the bill states that the country should introduce the concept of an organization “conducting the interests of foreign power” , and begin to register such entities “appropriately” .

According to the document, the legislative act "serves only the purpose of informing and will not limit the activities of organizations" recognized by "conductors of foreign interests."
