The wife of the editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta Europe, Antonina Martynova, was sentenced to nine years in prison in the case of attempted murder of her daughter.

The Novgorod regional court sentenced Antonina Martynova (Fedorova), the wife of the editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta Europe, Kirill Martynov, to nine years in a general regime colony. This is reported by "Caution News".

Martynova was found guilty of attempted murder of her daughter Alisa Fedorova in February 2007 in Veliky Novgorod. During the debate, the prosecutor asked that she be sentenced to 10 years in prison.

In her last word, Martynova said that on the day her daughter fell in 2007, she “experienced something that no one should experience.” “When I heard that I could lose her for many years, I couldn’t come to terms with it. I acted on emotions since I was very young. But I’m not a killer, I’m a mother who always wanted to be with her child,” the woman said.

According to investigators, the accused threw her two-year-old daughter into the stairwell, trying to stage an accident. As a result, the child received moderate injuries. Martynova herself insists that the girl was injured by accident - she climbed through the staircase railing, the woman failed to catch her in time, so the child fell.

In 2008, a jury in Veliky Novgorod found Martynova guilty. After the verdict was announced, the defendant, who was under recognizance not to leave the place, disappeared with the child - the verdict was never pronounced. All these years she lived in Russia, being on the federal wanted list.

On April 11, it became known that Martynova was detained - the court resumed consideration of her case. On April 16, a meeting was held at which the jury’s verdict was discussed; on that day, the court, at the request of the prosecutor, ordered a new psychological and psychiatric examination of Antonina Martynova. Subsequently, the wife of the editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta Evropy was declared sane.

Martynova’s daughter Alisa was also present at the meeting on April 16; she said that she learned her real name only after her mother was detained. All this time, Alisa studied at home; she does not have any documents about education or a passport. Martynova called her daughter Maria all this time.

During the debate, Martynova refused to admit guilt in the case and asked not to be separated from her daughter. Alice herself also said that she does not consider herself a victim and her mother a criminal. When the convoy began to take Martynova away after the meeting, her daughter cried .

A witness in Martynova’s case was an 11-year-old teenager, Yegor Kudrov, who was at the entrance at that moment. He claimed that he saw “the older girl throwing the younger one off.” In 2023, the NTV channel, on the air of the “Emergency” program, said that he died from a drug overdose.
