May snow fell in Moscow

It's snowing in Moscow and the Moscow region for the second day in a row. On May 8, the snowfall intensified and strong winds knocked down trees in some areas of the capital, damaging at least one car.

The videos published on May 8 show that Moscow is already completely shrouded in a snowstorm. In this case, the air temperature does not exceed 5 degrees. In addition, the Shot telegram channel writes that strong winds cut power lines in Solntsevo. And in Southern Tushino, a gust of wind tore off a window frame on the balcony of a high-rise building.

Snowfall in Moscow will continue until the morning of May 9, and the coming night the temperature could drop to minus 6 degrees, scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand told RBC.

Against the backdrop of cold weather, the capital's mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the resumption of heating supplies to residential buildings and public facilities. “The heat supply will continue until the regulation day and night air temperatures are established, allowing the heating season to end,” says a message published on his Telegram channel.

In the Moscow Department of Transport, citizens were encouraged to use public transport. “It is snowing heavily in some areas of Moscow. Be careful while driving, avoid sudden maneuvers, keep your distance and speed limits,” the department recommended.

A similar snowfall combined with freezing rain covered the Sverdlovsk region on May 4. 74,000 people were left without electricity. The mayor of the city of Degtyarsk, Vadim Pilnikov, even canceled classes in schools and kindergartens.
