Parade on Red Square: Putin criticized the West again

On May 9, a military parade in honor of the 79th anniversary of the Victory of the USSR over Germany in the Second World War was held on Red Square on May 9.

This is the third parade after the Russian large -scale invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022. President Vladimir Putin attended the rostrum. In addition to Putin, on Red Square were the presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Belarus, Turkmenistan, as well as specially invited leaders of Laos, Guinea-Bisau and Cuba. The Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, who arrived the day before, as well as last year, did not stay to Moscow for the EU Summit, this time.

In the speech, Putin called Victory Day the "main holiday" of Russia. Almost from the very beginning of the speech, he began to criticize the countries of the West, accusing them of rehabilitation of Nazism and of falsification of history. "Russia will do everything to prevent a global clash, but our strategic forces are always in a state of combat readiness," Putin said. Speaking about the Second World War, he came up with the assertion that all of Europe worked for Hitler Germany, and the Soviet Union for a long time opposed it almost alone. At the same time, he remembered that China resisted "militaristic Japan."

Putin also mentioned the so -called special military operation, calling the war participants in Ukraine "heroes". He did not mention the word "Ukraine" in his speech. “For Russia, for victory, cheers,” he finished his speech.

Most of the countries of the world celebrate Victory Day over Nazism on May 8, on this day in 1945 was announced the surrender of Germany. In the USSR, the victory was announced on May 9. Victory Day was a day off in 1965. In Soviet times, on May 9, the parades were rarely held, their annual holding was the post -Soviet tradition introduced by Putin's predecessor Boris Yeltsin. During Putin’s reign, the ideological content of state propaganda on Victory Day gradually changed, the authorities began to be used to justify confrontation with the West, and then the war in Ukraine.

In Ukraine, the celebration was finally postponed from May 9 to 8 after a large -scale Russian invasion. The day before, in his speech, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Hitler Nazism was reborn to Russian fascism - abbreviated as the RF RF. The Russian authorities, in turn, speak of Ukraine as a "Nazi state."

• As last year, the parade was attended by significantly fewer units of military equipment than in the years before the invasion of Ukraine. This is especially true for armored vehicles. On Red Square, however, Iskander's tactical missiles drove, capable of carrying nuclear weapons, strategic intercontinental missiles, S-400 anti-aircraft missiles. The duration of the parade was also significantly lower than in previous years - the passage of the troops lasted about half an hour.
• This year, however, the air part of the parade, which was not in 2023, took place. She was very short.
• Until 2020, on Victory Day in Russia, the processions of the "Immortal Regiment" were also held - people came to them with portraits of fought relatives. This year, the action was again canceled, as claimed, for security reasons.
