The Ukrainian armed forces shelled Belgorod, said the regional governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov.
A civilian was killed during the shelling - she died on the spot from her wounds before the ambulance arrived. Another 29 people, according to preliminary information, were injured. Among the wounded, according to Gladkov, there is one child. All victims were taken to hospitals.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that 12 shells fired from the Vampire multiple launch rocket system were destroyed over the area.
According to the Belgorod telegram channel “Ashes”, one of the shells hit the entrance of a house on 60th Anniversary of October Street.
Local telegram channels also reported hits on the streets of Shchorsa, Gubkin, Kostyukov, Korolev, Shalandin; on Vatutina Avenue, First Salut Boulevard and in the Kharkov Mountain area. A shell fragment, according to the Blatgorod telegram channel, pierced the roof of the City Mall shopping center.
There is also damage inside the Lenta hypermarket on Shchorsa Street. In addition, eyewitnesses publish footage of cars burning after being hit in different areas of the city. According to Gladkov, as a result of the shelling, six cars were burned, and a total of 21 cars were damaged.
Gladkov said that 49 apartments in 22 residential buildings and four commercial properties were damaged. In city hospital No. 2, the children's regional clinical hospital, the Lilac rhythmic gymnastics center and school No. 41, the glazing was damaged.
Shortly before the shelling, Gladkov announced the launch of a missile warning siren in the city. Half an hour later it was canceled, but a few minutes later it was launched again.
