Putin established the honorary title “Honored Worker of the Electoral System”

Vladimir Putin established a new honorary title “Honored Worker of the Electoral System of the Russian Federation,” follows from the presidential decree of May 10.

The title will be awarded to members of election commissions with voting rights who have worked for at least 10 years on a permanent basis or at least 15 years on a non-permanent basis. It will also be available to employees of election commissions and organizations that support the activities of commissions if they have incentives from the Central Election Commission or awards from other government agencies.

The honorary title will be awarded for holding elections and referendums, developing the electoral system, improving the legal culture of voters and achieving other “significant results.”

It was proposed to introduce this title in the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation at the beginning of March 2024 - after an employee of a Russian-appointed precinct election commission died during an explosion in Berdyansk, Zaporozhye region. The initiator of the proposal was the deputy chairman of the Public Chamber of the Kherson region, Alexander Malkevich.

• At the end of September 2022, the Russian authorities held referendums on joining the Russian Federation in the occupied territories of four regions of Ukraine (Lugansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporozhye). In the West, their results were not recognized and were called “parody” and “cynicism.”
• During the presidential elections in March 2024, observers at polling stations in Russia were detained and suspended from work, but the Central Election Commission stated that it did not record any violations. Following the election results, the Golos observer movement stated that Russia had never had a presidential campaign that “was so inconsistent with constitutional standards.”
