In Belgorod, on Shchorsa Street, the entrance to a 10-story residential building collapsed. Videos of the collapse appeared on local Telegram channels. The footage shows that an explosion occurred at the level of the first and second floors, and then the ceilings from the first to the tenth floors collapsed, while the roof remained in place.
The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said that the cause of the collapse was the shelling of the city by the Ukrainian military. “The city of Belgorod and the Belgorod district were subjected to massive shelling from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. On Kharkov Mountain, as a result of a direct hit by a shell on an apartment building, the entire entrance from the tenth to the first floor collapsed,” he wrote in his Telegram channel.
After the rescue operation began, the roof of the damaged entrance collapsed . TASS reported that several rescuers were trapped under the rubble, but later, citing sources in the operational services, wrote that the Emergency Situations Ministry employees were not injured.
In turn, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the house collapsed as a result of being hit by debris from a downed Ukrainian missile. “During repelling the attack, Russian air defense systems destroyed six Tochka-U missiles, four Vampire MLRS missiles and two Vilkha MLRS missiles. Fragments of one of the downed Tochka-U missiles damaged a residential building in the city of Belgorod,” the department said in a statement.
The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case of terrorism into the incident.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 12 people, including two children, were rescued from the rubble. At the same time, there were no official data on the total number of dead and injured at the time of publication of the note.
In turn, the SHOT telegram channel reported four dead and seven injured. TASS, citing sources, writes about nine victims.
