Journalists of the 75 world media issued the Dubai Unlocked investigation (“opened Dubai”) - about real estate owners in Dubai, including those accused of crimes in different countries of the world, politicians convicted of corruption, and businessmen who fell under the sanctions for financing terrorism.

For many years, Dubai was considered one of the main places where money was laundered, including through the real estate market, one of the investigation participants, the Center for the study of corruption and organized crime (OCCRP) writes . In the investigation of Dubai Unlocked, as its authors indicate, journalists first considered property ownership in Dubai on a global scale.

The investigation is based on numerous leaks of real estate data in Dubai, mainly from the Dubai Land Department, as well as from state communal enterprises. Drenches that occurred in 2020-2022 contain information about the owners of hundreds of thousands of real estate.

The data received the American Center for Promising Defense Research (C4ADS), a non -profit organization from Washington, which studies international crime and conflicts. C4ADS transmitted information to the Norwegian business publication E24 and OCCRP (the latter coordinated the work of the investigation participants).

As noted in OCCRP, journalists disclosed information about the owners of Dubai real estate only in cases of public interests. In particular, they reported the owners of real estate, who were accused or condemned for crimes, those who are threatened with sanctions, as well as officials and their close associates, including those accused of corruption or hiding their property from the public.

The Russian publication “Important Stories”, who participated in a global investigation, studied which of the Russian officials, deputies, heads of state companies and people related to crime, acquired real estate in Dubai.

According to the publication, two apartments in the residential complex of Marina Residences on the artificial island of Palm-Jumeira near the Coast of Dubai were owned by the former son-in-law of the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin, businessman Alexander Udodov (was the husband of the sister of Prime Minister Natalia Stenina in 2008-2020). The cost of his apartments was estimated at almost two million dollars. The largest of them-over 200 square meters on the 13th floor of Marina Residences 3-costs about one million dollars. According to journalists, the former governor of the Saratov region, the deputy head of the Rosenergoatom concern Pavel Ipatov owns 1244 square meters in Dubai on the island of Palm Jumeira, which costs about seven million dollars. His wife Anastasia has a villa on the same island for five million dollars, and nine more apartments for $ 12 million are nearby.
