Not a monolith

About the letter of doctors in support of the pediatrician Nadezhda Buyanova

Russian doctors distributed an open letter demanding to release an elderly woman, a 67-year-old pediatrician Nadezhda Buyanova from custody, who had undergone completely inhuman persecution due to the denunciation. First dismissed by the administration of the clinic, and then arrested and sent to a pre -trial detention center. And it seems to me that against the backdrop of the current, frozen state of civil society in Russia, this is an important event.

By virtue of my profession, I contact her doctors, although, of course, not as intensively as if I worked in some state medical institution at full rate. Of course, perhaps my personal impressions are not representative, but according to my opinion from my colleagues, most of them are completely loyal to the existing regime. And many sincerely support his domestic and foreign policy.

Against this background, for me, the initiative of doctors to collect signatures in support of their comrade in the workshop and simply not protected by an elderly woman was a complete surprise.

And this happened, despite the fear of expressions of their opinion, not coinciding with the opinion of the authorities, which now reigns in society.

And this fear was repeatedly mentioned by signathers-in a telegram chat in which the signatures took place.

As a result, 1035 medical workers signed the petition. Given that in the Russian Federation there are about 2 million specialists of this sphere in the Russian Federation, there are not so many. And, I think that from a purely pragmatic, rational point of view, it is naive to believe that in the restoration of the law and justice can help appeal to the authorities not intended for this.

But at the same time, this event, in my opinion, is very significant. It demonstrates that the spiral of silence, built on fear, indifference, unprincipled, momentary mercantile interests, blind obedience, is not so monolithic. Monolith, cast out of all this, nevertheless gives cracks. I recall the cartoon Harry Bardin “Listening to Beethoven”, in which green living sprouts still germinate, despite all the attempts of soulless iron mechanisms to tear them out or roll them into asphalt.
