In Murino (Leningrad Region), security forces detained a Belarusian doctor, Vladimir Martov, who is being prosecuted in his homeland for organizing an extremist community. Fontanka reports this.
Why Martov was detained is not specified. Now he is in the 87th police department in the Vsevolozhsk district of the Leningrad region.
In Belarus, Martov was the head of the department of anesthesiology and resuscitation of the Vitebsk Emergency Hospital. The persecution of the man began after criticism of the healthcare system and the actions of the authorities during the coronavirus pandemic. In April 2021, the doctor was fired from the hospital, after which he gave an interview, which was recognized as extremist material.
In Belarus, a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen in absentia for Martov.
