Video hosting YouTube has begun blocking content at the request of Russian authorities. The Agency has reviewed the blocking notices.
The videos in question were on the channels "Dozor v Volgograd", "Shkola prizyvnika" and an unnamed independent regional media outlet. They talked about draft evasion. In addition, YouTube notified the OVD-Info project about the threat of blocking its entire channel.
On "Dozor v Volgograd" YouTube blocked the videos "How to hide from the military registration and enlistment office (resistance to mobilization: part 3)" and "Dodge correctly", which had gained hundreds of thousands of views. The creator of the project, Evgeny Kochegin, said that he was trying to challenge the blocking, but did not expect success. In total, the channel has 29 thousand subscribers.
On the channel "School of the Conscript" with 21 thousand subscribers, YouTube blocked the video "Criminal charges will help not to serve", which had garnered six thousand views. On the channel of the regional media, the expert answered questions about how to avoid conscription, the interlocutor of "Agency" noted.
OVD-Info received a notification about the blocking of the channel "How is it now?" with 99 thousand subscribers. The project's press secretary Dmitry Anisimov said that this is probably the first case when Roskomnadzor demands to block not a specific video, but an entire channel.
The Agency writes that four notifications state that Roskomnadzor has declared the hosting company to be in violation of the federal law "On Information." YouTube suggested looking for more detailed information in the registry of prohibited sites.
An anonymous cybersecurity expert told Agency that YouTube had not previously blocked content at the request of Russian authorities. The source noted that this is a new trend, when human rights content is removed at the request of Russian authorities, and not because of violation of Google or Western policies.
